The summer program in Italian, open to students from Sweet Briar and other similar Institutions, is tailored on the needs of the students according to their preparation. Usually it consists of one language course and one literature course. The literature is a Renaissance course taught in English but if the student has a good knowledge of the Italian language even the second course is in Italian. The program takes place in Urbino, birthplace of Raffaello, a beautiful city in the province of Pesaro where the Apennines Mountains join the Adriatic Sea. It last 4 weeks and starts at the beginning of July. Besides the courses the program includes room and board ( except for breakfast and meals when on trips) at the University of Urbino, several excursions including Florence, Ravenna, Assisi, Perugia, Gubbio, Gradara and San Leo. It also includes air fare, visit to museums, transportation to and from Urbino at the arrival in Italy and at the departure's time. In Urbino Sweet Briar College offers a prestigious scholarship for a full year to the best student of Italian. The scholarship includes tuition and room and board.
